Japanese Steel Exports
After falling to a 5.5-year low in July, Japanese steel exports returned above 3.1 Mt in August, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Association. However, August’s figure was still 0.3 Mt below the year-ago level. Shipments in the first eight months of this year of 25.4 Mt were 2.4 Mt lower than the corresponding period in 2016, with weaker exports to destinations in Asia (-1.5 Mt to 20.0 Mt), the Middle East (-0.5 Mt to 0.6 Mt) and Europe (-0.3 Mt to 0.3 Mt).
