China’s Steel Output Strengthens
Chinese crude steel output rose strongly to 76.7 Mt in April, up by 4.8% year-on-year and a monthly record, according to the country’s National Bureau of Statistics. Supported by healthy profit margins at domestic mills, China’s steel output experienced robust growth in each of the first four months of the year, rebounding strongly after the expiry of winter curtailment measures. At 289.0 Mt, production in January-April was up by 5.0% on the same period in 2017.
