Taiwanese Coal Imports in August
Despite falling 0.1 Mt year-on-year, Taiwanese coal imports (including anthracite) in July reached a 12-month high of 6.6 Mt, the latest data from IHS Energy reveal.
Japanese Steel Output Falls in August
Japanese crude steel production fell by 0.7 Mt year-on-year to its second-lowest level since July 2009 at 8.1 Mt in August, according to the latest data from the country’s Iron and Steel Federation.
Chinese Coal Import Breakdown
The 4.3 Mt annual rise in total Chinese coal imports in August to 33.0 Mt featured a 2.1 Mt increase in coking coal imports to a record high 9.1 Mt, Chinese customs data show. Meanwhile, combined inbound shipments of steam coal (anthracite and lignite) were up 2.2 Mt year-on-year to 23.9 Mt.
Chinese Minor Bulk Imports in August
Several Chinese minor bulk imports enjoyed annual growth in August, data reveal. Manganese ore imports climbed 0.6 Mt year-on-year to 2.9 Mt, while imports of copper ores and concentrates (+0.2 Mt to 1.8 Mt) and fertilisers (+0.1 Mt to 0.7 Mt) also increased steadily.
