Brazilian Steel Exports Fall in June
Exports of Brazilian steel dropped 0.4 Mt year-on-year to 1.1 Mt in June, official data show. However, outbound shipments in the 2q19 were up 0.1 Mt compared to the same period in 2018 at 3.3 Mt.

June US Steel Imports Climb
US steel imports rose 0.2 Mt year-on-year in June to 2.5 Mt, with shipments from Brazil (+0.2 Mt to 0.5 Mt) driving the increase, according to preliminary data from the US Census Bureau. Despite this, imports in January-June were 1.4 Mt below year-ago levels at 14.8 Mt.
US Coal Exports Slip in May
At 7.8 Mt, total US coal exports (excluding cargoes to Canada) fell 0.4 Mt year-on-year in May, data from the country’s National Mining Association reveal. The fall featured a 0.2 Mt decline in shipments of both steam coal and coking coal, to 3.4 Mt and 4.4 Mt, respectively.
Australian Coal Exports in May
Exports of Australian coal rose 0.8 Mt year-on-year in May to 32.6 Mt, as both grades of coal edged on an annual basis, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. At 156.6 Mt, total outbound shipments in January-May experienced a 3.7 Mt gain year-on-year.
May Australian Iron Ore Exports
Australian iron ore exports (wet basis) climbed 0.7 Mt year-on-year to a 17-month high of 80.1 Mt in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reports. However, owing to a weak start to the year, exports in January-May were still 17.3 Mt below the corresponding period in 2018 at 346.9 Mt.
