Indonesia to Enforce IMO 2020 Regulations
In a reversal of the government’s previous position, the Indonesian Ministry of Transport has issued a statement saying the country will enforce IMO 2020 sulphur regulations for “all Indonesian-flagged vessels starting January 1 2020, both for domestic and foreign shipping”, Reuters reports.
Brazilian Steel Production
Brazilian crude steel output slipped 0.6 Mt year-on-year in July to 2.5 Mt, the Brazilian steel institute reports. At 19.7 Mt, steel production in January-July was 0.9 Mt below the corresponding period in 2018.
Japanese Iron Ore and Coal Imports
Japanese iron ore imports jumped 14.5% year-on-year in July to 10.6 Mt, the country’s Ministry of Finance reports. Meanwhile, coal imports climbed 11.8% to the highest level since December 2017 at 17.8 Mt.

Canadian Iron Ore Exports
June Canadian iron ore exports climbed 2.2 Mt year-on-year to 4.2 Mt, according to the Tex report. Shipments to China surged up 0.7 Mt to their highest level in 2019 at 1.0 Mt, while exports to Japan (+0.4 Mt to 0.7 Mt) and France (+0.3 Mt to 0.6 Mt) also rose on an annual basis.
