March customs data from China show that the country's coal imports (including lignite) in the 1q15 were down 42% on the 1q14 to 49.1 Mt, which marks the lowest quarterly total since 2011. Although Chinese iron ore imports rose 2% annually to 227.0 Mt in the 1q15, this marked a second successive quarterly decline and marked a fall of 6% from the quarterly all-time high of 242.1 Mt recorded in the 3q15. Despite March being the lowest month for steel exports since June 2014 (7.7 Mt), the 1q15 total of 25.8 Mt was up 41% on the 1q14, while quarterly soya imports registered a slight gain to 15.6 Mt.
