According to the latest World Steel Association Short Range Outlook, Chinese apparent steel use (ASU) is forecast to contract by 0.5% in both 2015 and 2016, to 707.2 Mt and 703.7 Mt, respectively. This contraction in Chinese demand has contributed to a world ASU growth forecast of 0.5% in 2015 and 1.4% in 2016, to 1,544.4 Mt and 1,565.5 Mt. India is expected to see strong growth in steel consumption in 2015 (+6.2% to 80.0 Mt), while ASU growth in the EU-28 will slow to +2.1% (to 149.9 Mt) and fall in the US (-0.4% to 106.5 Mt) after a strong 2014.
