Iron Ore Mining Resumes in Goa
Iron Ore
Iron ore mining in the Indian state of Goa resumed on 10 August for the first time since the Indian Supreme Court banned mining in the state in 2012, Reuters reports. Mining proper is set to begin after the monsoon season ends in September with the majority of miners in Goa expected to receive licenses to restart production this fiscal year. The Indian government has cut the export duty for low quality iron ore (<58% Fe) to 10% in a bid to stimulate exports, however, the Supreme Court has set an annual export limit of 20 Mt for the fiscal year.
