Of the 10.5 Mt of iron ore Japan imported in June 5.8 Mt was sourced from Australia, down slightly year-on-year, according to the TEX Report. Brazilian imports fell 0.4 Mt to 3.3 Mt, however, there were increases in shipments from both South Africa (+0.2 Mt to 0.8 Mt) and Canada (+0.5 Mt to 0.5 Mt). Overall, imports were down 0.3 Mt year-on-year in June. Japanese coal imports from Australia rose to a five-month high of 10.7 Mt in June, up 0.4 Mt year-on-year, according to Ministry of Finance data. There was also a 0.2 Mt increase in imports from the US to 0.6 Mt. These rises countered falls in shipments from Indonesia (-0.2 Mt to 2.5 Mt) and the FSU (-0.3 Mt to 1.3 Mt) and meant coal imports were up 0.1 Mt overall at 15.9 Mt.
