Chinese UHV Power Lines to Reduce Coal Transport
Coal, Electricity
China is expected to commission 27 ultra-high-voltage (UHV) power lines by 2020, potentially reducing coal import demand, according to a forecast from the China Railway Design Institute reported by IHS Energy. The institute anticipates that the additional power lines could cut demand for coal railed from mining regions by 500-600 Mtpa. Coal railings have already fallen by 13% annually during January-October.
