Chinese Trade Data for June
Coal, Grain, Iron Ore, Steel
The weakness in Chinese coal imports (incl. lignite) continued in June with volumes down 34% year-on-year to 16.6 Mt, very close to the monthly average for the year to date, according to preliminary trade data from China Customs. As a result, 1h15 imports were down around 60 Mt to 99.9 Mt. Meanwhile, iron ore imports rose slightly year-on-year to 75.0 Mt, with total imports for the 1h15 down 1% on the same period in 2014 at 453.1 Mt. China's steel exports remained strong, rising 26% year-on-year to 8.9 Mt, with 1h15 exports 28% higher than they were in the 1h14 at 52.4 Mt. Finally, Chinese soyabean imports rose 27% to a six-month high of 8.1 Mt in June.
