Japanese coking coal imports fell 3% year-on-year to 5.7 Mt in April, although they marked a small improvement from March's 25-month low of 5.4 Mt, according to the Tex Report. In contrast, imports of steam coal and anthracite combined were up 17% on April 2014 at 9.6 Mt. There were increases in imports of all coal types from Australia (+11%) and Canada (+17%), while imports from Indonesia fell (-4%).
