China's iron ore imports fell to 75.5 Mt in October, down by 3.9 Mt year-on-year, according to preliminary customs data. As a consequence, imports for January-October were also down by 3.9 Mt on the same period in 2014 at 774.9 Mt. The trend for weak Chinese coal imports continued in October as shipments (incl. lignite) fell to their lowest level since April 2011 at 14.0 Mt, down 6.2 Mt year-on-year. Imports for the year to date are now running 73.0 Mt behind where they were at this point in 2014 at 170.4 Mt. Meanwhile, after surging to an all-time high of 11.3 Mt in September, Chinese steel exports fell to a four-month low of 9.0 Mt in October, although they were still up by 0.5 Mt on October 2014.
