UK Coal Imports Slump
The UK's coal imports plunged to less than half their year-ago level in September at 1.2 Mt, customs statistics show. This fall was almost entirely due to a sharp drop in steam coal imports (incl. anthracite), which fell from 2.6 Mt in September 2014 to 0.8 Mt, as shipments from the USA and Russia tumbled. Coking coal imports fell slightly in September, to 0.4 Mt. Imports of all coal types in January-September were down by 12.0 Mt year-on-year at 17.7 Mt.
