July saw iron ore exports (wet basis) from Australia retreat by 3.6 Mt or 5% from June's all-time high to 67.3 Mt, according to official data. However, this was still 3.4% higher year-on-year and ensured that shipments for the period January-July totalled 455.3 Mt, up 34.2 Mt (+8.1%) on the same period last year. After hitting a record 17.3 Mt in June, Australian coking coal exports dropped to 15.3 Mt in July, but were still nearly 1.0 Mt above the year-ago level. By comparison, there was a 1.0 Mt decline in shipments of steam coal and anthracite combined to 16.9 Mt, which was also down by 1.4 Mt year-on-year.
