Queensland Rail Network Update
In the latest update on the status of its Queensland rail operations following Cyclone Debbie, rail freight operator Aurizon reports that the Blackwater, Moura and Newlands lines linking coal mines to ports are all expected to reopen this week (ahead of previous estimates), albeit with some capacity restrictions in place. The first two serve the Port of Gladstone, while the latter carries coal to Abbot Point Coal Terminal. However, the Goonyella line, which rails coal to export terminals at Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point is still not expected to be operational until the second week of May. In addition, Aurizon comments that some alternative routes are on offer for coal mines on the western section of the Goonyella system, north to abbot point or south to Gladstone, using the Newlands and Blackwater systems.
