Australian iron ore exports dropped to a four-month low of 70.4 Mt (wet basis) in June, down by 1.0 Mt year-on-year, Australian Bureau of Statistics data show. However, strong export growth in earlier months meant 1h17 shipments were still up by 11.9 Mt on the same period last year at 420.3 Mt, a record for the 1h.
Meanwhile, Australia’s coal exports climbed to a year-to-date high of 32.1 Mt in June, although they were still 1.2 Mt below the year-ago level. At 177.0 Mt, coal exports in January-June were 13.0 Mt lower than the 1h16, as shipments of both coking coal (-12.9 Mt to 80 Mt) and steam coal (-0.1 Mt to 97.0 Mt) declined.
