Chinese Iron Ore Imports by Source
Of the 86.3 Mt of iron ore China imported in July, 55.5 Mt was from Australia, up by 1.8 Mt year-on-year, customs data show. By contrast, imports from Brazil fell by 2.3 Mt to 17.4 Mt. There were also declines in shipments from South Africa (-0.7 Mt to 2.9 Mt) and South American suppliers outside Brazil (-1.0 Mt to 2.8 Mt). After a very strong start to the year, Chinese imports of Indian iron ore dropped to a 19-month low of 0.7 Mt in July as the monsoon slowed mining and shipping.
