World Steel Production
Global crude steel production rose by 6.3% year-on-year to 143.2 Mt in July, lifted by a 10.3% annual increase in Chinese steel output to a record 74.0 Mt, according to the World Steel Association. There was also strong growth in steel production outside China, with output in the rest of the world combined rebounding from weaker growth in June to increase by 2.3% to 69.2 Mt in July. This included strong expansion in India (+3.5% to 8.4 Mt), the US (+5.6% to 7.1 Mt) and Turkey (+27.8% to 3.3 M).
At 977.3 Mt, world crude steel production in January-July was up by 4.6% on the same period in 2016.
