South Korean Coking Coal Imports Increase
South Korea imported 11.3 Mt of coal in November, up from October’s year-to-date low of 10.9 M but still down slightly year-on-year, IHS Energy reports. The decline was due to a 0.2 Mt drop in steam coal imports (incl. anthracite) to 9.3 Mt. By contrast, coking coal imports edged up to 2.0 Mt, with shipments from Australia marking a four-month high of 1.1 Mt and imports from the US, of 0.4 Mt, the largest since June 2015. At 135.5 Mt, South Korean coal imports in January-November were up by 15.1 Mt on the same period in 2016.
