Steel
Brazilian crude steel output fell by 12.7% year-on-year in December to 2.1 Mt, the lowest level since June 2009, according to data from Instituto Aço Brasil, the country’s steel association. This contributed to a 9.1% fall in the country’s 2016 steel production to a seven-year low of 30.2 Mt. Brazil’s apparent steel consumption (calculated as domestic production, plus imports, minus exports) slumped to 18.2 Mt in 2016, down 14.4% on the previous year.
