Chinese Economic Update

China’s Producer Price Index (PPI) surged by 5.5% year-on-year in December, the strongest increase since September 2011, on the back of higher raw material prices, according to National Bureau of Statistics data reported by Reuters. By contrast Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) slowed to 2.1% in December, down from 2.3% in November.

Chinese GDP grew by around 6.7% on an annual basis on an annual basis in 2016, within the official target range of 6.5-7%, according to a briefing from the director of the country’s National Development and Reform Commission quoted by Reuters.
