IMF Economic Outlook Update
In its latest World Economic Outlook update, the IMF has left its headline forecasts for global economic growth in 2017 and 2018 unchanged at 3.4% and 3.6%, respectively. However, this hides a divergence in outlooks for advanced and emerging markets. The forecasts for growth in advanced economies in 2017 and 2018 have been lifted by 0.1 percentage points and 0.2 percentage points to 1.9% and 2.0%, respectively, on the expectation of stronger growth in the UK and USA. By contrast, the forecast for growth in emerging markets in 2017 has been cut by 0.1 percentage points to 4.5%, while the outlook for 2018 is unchanged at 4.8%.
