China’s 1h17 Dry Bulk Imports and Exports

Supported by strong annual growth of 13.1 Mt in shipments in June to 94.7 Mt, China imported 539.5 Mt of iron ore in the 1h17, up by 45.6 Mt year-on-year, customs data show. By contrast, the country’s 1h17 steel exports dropped by 16.3 Mt to 41.0 Mt, the slowest start to the year since 2014.
China’s coal imports (incl. lignite) rose by 25.2 Mt year-on-year in the 1h17 to 133.3 Mt, although imports fell on an annual basis for the first time since July 2016 in June, dropping by 0.2 Mt to a four-month low of 21.6 Mt.
