Further Growth in Chinese Steel Production in May
China’s crude steel output rose by 1.8% year-on-year to 72.3 Mt in May. Although down from expansion of 4.9% in April, May marked the fifteenth consecutive annual gain, according to the country’s National Bureau of Statistics. Steel production in January-May was up by 4.4% on the same period last year at 346.8 Mt.
Meanwhile, annual industrial production growth in China in May was unchanged from April at 6.5%.
