Australian Iron Ore and Coal Exports Fall in January

Australian iron ore exports (wet basis) dropped to an 11-month low of 66.5 Mt in January from the all-time high of 78.9 Mt in December, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data. However, shipments remained 6.2 Mt above the year-ago level.
Meanwhile, January saw Australia's coal exports decline to the lowest monthly level since February 2016, at 30.0 Mt, down by 7.9 Mt month-on-month and 1.9 Mt year-on-year. Sizeable declines were seen in both coking coal (-4.5 Mt to 13.6 Mt) and steam coal (-3.3 Mt to 16.4 Mt) shipments.
