US and Canadian Coal Trade in January
The US exported over 6 Mt of coal (excl. cargoes to Canada) for a second consecutive month in January as shipments rose by 2.6 Mt year-on-year to 6.3 Mt, according to the country’s National Mining Association. Seaborne coking coal exports climbed 1.1 Mt to 3.6 Mt, while there was a 1.5 Mt increase in steam coal shipments to 2.7 Mt.
By contrast, Canadian coking coal exports (excl. shipments to the US) dropped to an eight-month low of 2.0 Mt in January, down slightly year-on-year, as shipments to China and India fell sharply, according to IHS Energy.
