Brazil’s Iron Ore Exports Fall Sharply in April

According to trade ministry data, Brazilian iron ore exports dropped to a 27-month low of 24.1 Mt in April, down by 4.9 Mt year-on-year. This represents a sharp turnaround from March when official data indicated shipments hit a 15-month high of 36.4 Mt. Brazil exported 115.1 Mt of iron ore in January-April 2017, up by 0.8 Mt year-on-year.


By contrast, Brazilian soya exports (beans & meal) continued their seasonal upswing in April, rising to an 11-month high of 11.8 Mt, up slightly year-on-year. At 28.4 Mt, soya exports have now seen annual growth of 2.6 Mt in the year to date.
