Chinese Trade Data for April
Coal, Grain, Iron Ore, Steel
Chinese iron ore imports increased by 27.8 Mt year-on-year in January-April to 353.3 Mt despite a modest annual decline in April shipments to 82.2 Mt, customs data show.
The country’s coal imports (incl. lignite) rose by 6.0 Mt year-on-year to a three-month high of 24.8 Mt in April. Imports have now seen annual growth of 22.2 Mt in the first four months of the year to 89.5 Mt. There was also a 1.0 Mt increase in April soyabean imports to a year-to-date high of 8.0 Mt.
By contrast, the country’s steel exports fell for the ninth consecutive month to 6.5 Mt, down by 2.6 Mt year-on-year.
