South Korean Coal Imports in April

South Korean coal imports slipped to a five-month low of 11.6 Mt in April, however they were still up by 0.7 Mt year-on-year, according to data from IHS Energy. Steam coal imports (incl. anthracite) rose by 0.8 Mt in April to 9.7 Mt, lifted by strong growth in shipments from Russia and Indonesia. By contrast, a sharp drop in shipments from Australia contributed to a 0.1 Mt decline in coking coal imports to 1.9 Mt. South Korea imported 49.4 Mt of all coal types in the first four months of 2017, up by 5.6 Mt on the same period last year.
