US Coal Exports at Three-Year High in March
US coal exports (excl. cargoes to Canada) climbed to the highest level in three years in March at 7.2 Mt, up by 2.7 Mt year-on-year, according to the country’s National Mining Association. This was primarily due to strong annual growth in steam and coking coal shipments to Europe which rose by a combined 2.0 Mt to 3.8 Mt. There were also increases in steam coal exports to destinations in Asia. The US exported 19.6 Mt of coal in the 1q17, up by 7.5 Mt on the same period in 2016.
