World Steel Production Expands in April
Global crude steel output rose by 5.0% year-on-year to 142.1 Mt in April following further strong production growth in the majority of major steel producing regions, the World Steel Association reports. Steel Output in January-April was up by 5.2 % on the same period last year at 550.8 Mt.
Record monthly steel production in China, where output increased by 4.9% year-on-year to 72.8 Mt, was the primary driver of growth in April however, there were also increases in the EU (+6.1% to 14.3 Mt), Japan (+3.0% to 8.8 Mt), the US (+1.8% to 6.7 Mt), Russia (+4.3% to 6.2 Mt) and Latin America (+16.8% to 5.3 Mt). Indian steel production increased by 4.8% to an estimated 8.1 Mt in April while, by contrast, South Korean output dropped by 2.9% to 5.5 Mt.
