Chinese Coal Imports Breakdown

Chinese imports of steam coal and anthracite combined dropped to the lowest level since February 2016 in October at 7.4 Mt, down by 2.1 Mt year-on-year, Chinese customs data show. Imports have now fallen on an annual basis in three of the last four months. However, the country’s lignite imports remained strong at 8.6 Mt, up by 1.7 Mt and the second strongest month of the year. Meanwhile coking coal imports rose by 0.1 Mt year-on-year to 5.3 Mt in October, although still a five-month low.
