Strong Annual Growth in Taiwanese Coal Imports

Taiwan imported 5.8 Mt of coal (incl. anthracite) in September, down from 6.1 Mt in August but still up by 0.8 Mt year-on-year, IHS Energy reports. There was growth in shipments from Australia (+0.2 Mt to 2.9 Mt), Indonesia (+0.3 Mt to 1.7 Mt) and South Africa (+0.2 to 0.3 Mt) in September, with year-to-date shipments from the latter now more than double the 2016 total. Taiwan imported 53.3 Mt of coal from all sources in the first nine months of the year, up by 5.0 Mt on the same period in 2016.
