Chinese Iron Ore Imports Breakdown
Iron Ore
Of the record 102.8 Mt of iron ore China imported in September, 65.1 Mt were sourced from Australia, up by 4.7 Mt year-on-year and an all-time high, customs data show. By contrast, shipments from Brazil fell slightly from August to 21.8 Mt, although still up by 2.8 Mt on the year-ago level. September also saw strong Chinese imports of iron ore from South Africa (+0.6 Mt to a record 5.1 Mt) and Iran (+0.5 Mt to 2.0 Mt), however imports from India remained weak at just 1.1 Mt as the country’s exports were slowed by the monsoon season.
