US Steel Imports Decline
Steel
US steel imports continued to decline in September, dropping to a seven-month low of 2.7 Mt, according to import licence data from the US Census Bureau. This fall may, in part, be due to hurricane related disruption to trade in the US Gulf which handles over 40% of US steel imports. Nevertheless, weak shipments in 2016 meant September imports were still up by 0.2 Mt year-on-year. At 26.8 Mt, US steel imports in January-September were 4.3 Mt higher than in the same nine months last year.
