Shell to Restart Covent Refinery Next Week
Royal Dutch Shell Plc plans to restart its 227,586 b/d Convent Louisiana refinery by early next week, Reuters reports. The refinery was previously shut by a plant wide power outage last Tuesday, induced by a fire in one of the refinery’s electrical substations. Since then, power has been restored to the west side of the refinery. Shell anticipates power will be returned to the east side of the plant by Friday night. The planned overhaul arranged next week on the refinery’s 45,000 b/d heavy-oil hydrocracker will carry on as scheduled, with half of the unit’s production capacity expected to shut down for up to one month.
At present, the weekly gross US input into refineries is at 16.443M b/d up 12% from the beginning of the month, as the majority of US refineries are back in normal operation after Hurricane Harvey lashed Texas about three weeks ago. The percentage of refining capacity still out of commission is estimated down to about 5%.
