South Korean Coal and Steel Trade
Lifted by strong shipments from Australia and Indonesia, South Korean steam coal imports climbed to a record 10.4 Mt in August, up by 2.8 Mt year-on-year, IHS Energy reports. By contrast, coking coal imports fell by 0.4 Mt to an eighteen-month low of 1.7 Mt. South Korea imported 13.1 Mt of all coal types in August, up by 2.0 Mt.
Meanwhile, the country’s steel exports climbed to a seven-month high of 2.8 Mt in August, the Korean Steel Association reports. At 21.5 Mt, exports in January-August were up by 1.8 Mt on the same period last year.
