South Korean Coal Imports Increase
South Korean coal imports rose by 2.2 Mt year-on-year to a seven-month high of 13.8 Mt in April as shipments of both coking and steam coal (incl. anthracite) increased, IHS reports. Lifted by strong growth in shipments from Canada, coking coal imports rose by 0.5 Mt to 2.4 Mt, while steam coal imports (+1.7 Mt to 11.4 Mt) were boosted by increased Indonesian and Russian cargoes. At 50.4 Mt, overall coal imports in the first four months of the year were up by 1.0 Mt on the same period in 2017.
