Chinese Bauxite, Nickel Ore and Manganese Ore Imports in July

Chinese bauxite imports soared to a new record high of 11.0 Mt last month, rising 1.3 Mt year-on-year and growing from a previous peak of 10.4 Mt in June, customs data show. Receipts from Guinea also surged to a record 5.8 Mt in July (+1.3 Mt). Total year-to-date imports from all sources gained 3.3 Mt to 69.3 Mt.

Meanwhile, the country’s nickel ore receipts fell 0.7 Mt year-on-year to 4.9 Mt in July (of which nearly 4.4 Mt was from the Philippines), although this was still an eight-month high. Chinese manganese ore imports eased 0.1 Mt to just shy of 3.0 Mt, with receipts from South Africa down slightly at 1.2 Mt.
