Queensland Coal Exports Extend Decline

Combined coal throughput at the main Queensland ports of Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Gladstone and Hay Point continued to fall in July, down by 4.0 Mt year-on-year to 15.6 Mt, port authority data show. Exports dropped from 18.4 Mt in June to the lowest level since February 2019.

Gladstone exports were down by 0.9 Mt year-on-year to just under 6.0 Mt last month, while shipments from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal fell to 4.2 Mt (-1.3 Mt). Hay Point and Abbot Point loadings declined by 1.2 Mt and 0.6 Mt to 3.3 Mt and 2.2 Mt, respectively.
