Coal

Combined coal throughput from the four main Queensland ports extended its downward trend, falling 1.6 Mt year-on-year to 15.7 Mt in November, port authority data show. However, shipments inched 0.2 Mt higher on the month.

Exports from Hay Point shed 1.5 Mt year-on-year to 2.6 Mt last month, the lowest since April 2017. Loadings from Abbot Point fell 0.4 Mt to 2.2 Mt, while those from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal were nearly flat at 4.7 Mt. By contrast, shipments from Gladstone rose 0.3 Mt to 6.2 Mt, the second highest level of the year so far. Overall exports in January-November retreated to 183.1 Mt (-16.2 Mt).
