The IEA Forecasts Rise in Global Coking Coal Imports in 2021

In its annual Coal 2020 report, the International Energy Agency (IEA) projected world coking coal imports to grow by 6.1% year-on-year in 2021 to 332 Mt. Import gains are expected to be largest in India (+13.5% to 58 Mt) and Europe (+10.6% to 60 Mt), while shipments to China are forecast to remain the same as the year-ago level at 84 Mt. Japanese and South Korean coking coal import growth is expected at a respective 8.5% and 2.9% to 40 Mt and 35 Mt respectively.
