Indonesian Coal, Nickel Ore and Bauxite Exports Rise in 2019

Indonesian coal exports gained by 30.6 Mt year-on-year to 459.1 Mt in 2019, data from Bank Indonesia show. Coal exports have posted annual rises each year in 2016-19, but last year’s growth eased from a gain of 39.2 Mt in 2018.

Coal shipments in 2019 were supported by a record quarterly performance in October-December (at 116.9 Mt, + 4.1 Mt year-on-year).

The country’s nickel ore exports rose to 32.4 Mt last year from 19.8 Mt in 2018. Loadings peaked at 11.7 Mt in 4q19, ahead of a ban on exports from 1 January 2020.

Indonesian bauxite shipments increased to 15.5 Mt last year from 8.7 Mt in 2018.
