Queensland Coal Exports Ease in January

Coal

Queensland coal exports from the four main ports of Gladstone, Dalrymple Bay, Hay Point and Abbot Point declined by 0.5 Mt year-on-year to 18.4 Mt in January, according to port authority data. Loadings dropped from 20.8 Mt in December 2019.

Weaker Dalrymple Bay coal exports, which were down by 1.7 Mt on the year to 4.8 Mt in January, offset gains elsewhere. Meanwhile, January shipments from Gladstone edged up for a second month in a row to 6.9 Mt (+0.4 Mt year-on-year).

Hay Point and Abbot Point coal exports gained by approximately 0.4 Mt on the year apiece to 4.5 Mt and 2.3 Mt, respectively.
