South African Seaborne Iron Ore Exports Flat

South African seaborne iron ore exports were flat year-on-year at 6.6 Mt in January, according to South African Revenue Service (Sars) data. However, last month’s loadings were at a 12-month high and rose from 5.8 Mt in December 2019.

The country’s seaborne manganese ore shipments were unchanged on the year at 1.5 Mt in January, Sars data show. Exports to China inched down by 0.1 Mt year-on-year to 0.9 Mt last month. Shipments rose to 19.5 Mt in 2019 (+1.8 Mt year-on-year), the highest since at least 2011.
