South Korean Coal Imports Fall

Total South Korea coal imports dropped by 2.5 Mt year-on-year to 11.1 Mt last month, according to IHS. Overall January coal receipts fell from 12.4 Mt in December 2019 to the lowest level since June 2019.

Steam coal imports tumbled to 8.4 Mt in January (-2.9 Mt year-on-year), as arrivals from Indonesia declined to 2.4 Mt (-1.7 Mt on the year). However, the country’s coking coal receipts rose by 0.2 Mt from January 2019 to 1.9 Mt.
