Taiwanese Coal Imports Fall

Taiwanese coal imports, including anthracite, declined to 67.1 Mt in 2019, down by 2.1 Mt year-on-year, according to data gathered by IHS. Last year’s coal receipts ended two years in a row of annual rises in 2017-18.
Australian coal continued to account for the majority of Taiwan’s imports with 33.7 Mt in 2019 (-0.6 Mt year-on-year). Meanwhile, total volumes from Indonesia rose by 1.5 Mt on the year to 19.3 Mt in 2019 — a three-year high.
