Australian Iron Ore, Coal Exports in May

Australian iron ore exports rose to a five-month high of 79.3 Mt (wet basis) in May, although down by 0.9 Mt on the year, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Shipments to China gained to 67.3 Mt (+3.4 Mt year-on-year), while those to South Korea and Japan were down by over 2.0 Mt apiece to 3.5 Mt and 4.3 Mt, respectively.
The country’s coking coal exports dropped by 2.7 Mt on the year to a 15-month low of 13.3 Mt in May, while steam coal (including anthracite) loadings declined to 15.7 Mt (-1.1 Mt).
