Canadian Coking Coal Exports Continue Lower

Canadian coking coal exports (excluding the US) declined on an annual basis for a seventh month in a row to 2.1 Mt in May (-0.2 Mt year-on-year), according to data collected by IHS. Shipments inched up from just shy of 2.0 Mt in April, while exports in the first five months of the year fell by 1.5 Mt to 10.3 Mt.
Meanwhile, the country’s steam coal exports trebled on the year to 0.3 Mt in May, marking an eighth consecutive month of growth. Year-to-date shipments rose to 1.3 Mt from 0.2 Mt in January-May 2019.
