Chinese iron ore imports in June were the second strongest month on record, climbing sharply to 101.7 Mt, up from 87.0 Mt in May and 75.2 Mt in June 2019. This took China’s January-June iron ore imports to 547.2 Mt, 46.7 Mt higher than the same six months last year.

Meanwhile, the country’s soyabean receipts rose to a monthly high of 11.2 Mt in June, up by 4.6 Mt year-on-year.

By contrast, China’s coal imports fell slightly year-on-year to 25.3 Mt in June. Import restrictions at some of the country’s ports have slowed the pace of trade.
